Thanksgiving Craft & a Freebie!

November 13, 2012

It’s almost THANKSGIVING… break!  hehe Yes, ya’ll I am so ready for our time off!!!  Aren’t you?
Well anywho, we’re finishing out the week with lots of fun activities from my Thanksgiving Math & Literacy Packet, but we’re also doing a cute little turkey craft that I just ADORE!!  I’ve used this coffee filter turkey for as long as I can remember and just a few years ago, I turned it into a plea for help from a sweet little turkey. I can’t remember where I saw the sign, but please let me  know if you do so I can give them the credit! Too cute!
So, here’s how it goes, first I give each kiddo a coffee filter with their initials written with permanent marker (we don’t want that part to bleed).  The students get to decorate their “turkey feathers” however they like.  I try to urge them to cover the filter entirely so their feathers really show!  They can do a design, a pattern or just make it random, let them have fun with this part!  Once they have colored the entire filter we can lay it out and spray it with a water bottle, this is the cool part.

This is where the kids get to see their coloring come to life!  The colors start to bleed together and create a really neat look!

Once your filters are nice and dry you can finish the craft by adding your turkey pieces.
I always do this craft with a story called A Turkey For Thanksgiving by Eve Bunting.  It’s the cutest story about Mr. & Mrs. Moose preparing for Thanksgiving dinner, but Mrs. Moose is so sad because she doesn’t have a turkey for Thanksgiving.  So Mr. Moose sets out with all of his animal friends to find a turkey for Mrs. Moose!  Well, they go on a journey through the forest to find this turkey.  When they finally find him hiding in his nest, they catch him and bring him home to Mrs. Moose for thanksgiving dinner….. well kind of.  You’ll have to read to find out!
Ah, so cute!
After the story we start by talking about all the wonderful things we LOVE to eat at Thanksgiving dinner and we brainstorm a whole list.  Of things of other than the turkey. Smile
Then we begin our craftivity!
1. Write what they want to “eat more” of.
2. Glue on the coffee filter.
3. Trace, cut & glue the turkey body.
4. Add the details (googly eyes, wattle, beak & legs)
5. Glue on the popsicle stick and sign!
Here is the finished product!

Super easy to do, the only thing you need to prep are the turkey body tracers and some scrap paper for the beak, wattle and feet.  Then add the post for that sweet little turkey and voila!
If you would like to download this craft just click here for the tracer and sign!
If you love this cute little guy, show me some love and pin it or leave some feedback!
Okay now onto the FREEBIE!  I made a little writing prompt to use for your kiddos to show what they’re thankful for.

You must have done this with Kathryn & she remembers, because they're all colored & then water sprayed coffee filters in all of her kitchen craft drawers…haha!

Shrek Jr. was absolutely AMAZING! 💚🎭I am beyond proud of Maddox for taking on such a huge role and absolutely crushing it as Shrek. Watching him own that stage with confidence, talent, and perfect comedic timing was something I’ll never forget. And Mia? She kicked butt up there! She brought so much energy and heart to every moment, and seeing these two shine together made this mama’s heart so full. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be humming “I’m a Believer” for the next three weeks… and wondering if we have room for a swamp in the backyard. 💚✨#maddoxzachary #maddoxandmia #shrekjr #shrekjrthemusical #actorsconservatorytheater ...
