February Book Review {2023}

March 2, 2023

A book review that has a little bit of everything. The month started off strong with a cute little romance, followed by a psych-thriller. Then it slowly went down the drain. Keep reading to see what fell completely flat for me.

This reading month was kind of blah. I hope it doesn’t put me in a reading slump, because boy these were rough to get through.

Please leave me some solid suggestions, I need something to bring me out of this month of two bad books in a row.

By A Thread by Lucy Score

I loved this book. The humor, the banter, the grumpy/sunshine, and enemies to lovers... it was all such a fun read! I adored that the characters were in their early 40s, and the spiceeeeee! Score's writing style is impeccable and I didn't want to put this down. 💜 Dom in his drunk scene is adorable. 💜 Their nicknames (Maleficent and Charming) were pure perfection! 💜 The steam is beyond steamy, be prepared!

5/5 Stars

Never Lie by Frieda McFadden

This was an excellent psychological thriller. I was pleased to get a dependable thriller under my belt. The synopsis really gripped me and kept me sucked in the entire time! I love when my guesses are wrong and the twists are COMPLETELY unexpected. If you're looking for a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat, look no further.

Secretly Yours by Tessa Bailey

It Happened One Summer was one of my favorite books of 2021, so I was really looking forward to this one by Tessa Bailey. I'm sorry to say this one did not live up to the expectations. It was corny and awkward. The "love story" seemed really forced and the conflict was weak. The characters were not very likeable, and it just didn't work well. I hate to say it but I could've done without this one!

3/5 stars

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

This one was a tough one to get through for me. Although many reviewers said you didn't have to be a "gamer" to enjoy this, I strongly disagree. After just a few chapters of gaming politics and discussion about programming, I found myself bored and wanting to dnf. I push through until about 80% and then I decided to dnf. Listen, the story of Sam and Sadie starts off strong, it's a very interesting meet-cute and I love their backstory but the timeline jumping got to be confusing and (like I said previously) found myself uninterested in the content itself. Maybe this is showing my age, but this one was definitely not for me.

Shrek Jr. was absolutely AMAZING! 💚🎭I am beyond proud of Maddox for taking on such a huge role and absolutely crushing it as Shrek. Watching him own that stage with confidence, talent, and perfect comedic timing was something I’ll never forget.And Mia? She kicked butt up there! She brought so much energy and heart to every moment, and seeing these two shine together made this mama’s heart so full.Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be humming “I’m a Believer” for the next three weeks… and wondering if we have room for a swamp in the backyard. 💚✨#maddoxzachary #maddoxandmia #shrekjr #shrekjrthemusical #actorsconservatorytheater ...
