Zach and I met in 2003 our first year at Midwestern State University in good old Wichita Falls, TX (you have to say the town in a country accent). We were both so excited to be on a large co-ed, collegiate cheer team. Yes, I said it, I met Zach in college because we both cheered! Well, not the rah-rah, go team kind of cheer, more like, guys lifting girls, super competitive, crazy tricks kind of cheerleading.
Zach was the crazy-haired jokester of the team and I was the bossy little mexican. (See that self-awareness)
Anywhoo, we hit it off right away and became really good friends. By our second year, Zach and I had really grown to be leaders on our team and that made us even closer! We were best friends and stunt partners!
We saw each other go through relationships and even were friends with them. And by our final year, we found ourselves both single and wanting to hang out more and more. We truly enjoyed each other’s company, even if it was doing laundry together and thinking of new pyramids or stunts.
Every year our team traveled to Daytona Beach, FL for College Nationals and we would compete against every other college team in our division. We looked forward to this every spring in college, it was the one thing that truly brought us together.
Well, I guess there isn’t much more to it. He FINALLY asked me out, and I said “Duh!” We enjoyed chips and salsa and a giant margarita at a little place called Uncle Julio’s…. and the rest is history.
Crazy huh, after almost 4 years of being friends we ended up falling in love. I can honestly say I fell in love with my best friend. He knows me better than I know myself and I adore everything about him. I can go on and on about him but that’s for another post, another day.
We love, because he first loved us.
