WE MADE IT!!No but seriously, what a trip!! Where to begin….
Here we are arriving at the airport with no idea what to expect!
We decided we would keep Maddox in the stroller and check it at the gate. So we went to the counter to check our bags and we had to weigh our stroller to make sure it was under 20 lbs. We have a Britax B-Agile stroller and it was perfect, right at 18 lbs! So the next step was getting it through TSA… and 8 oz. of breast milk! Ha, this should be interesting!
Well, turns out it was super simple. We had to fold the stroller and put it through the x-ray machine and then we just walked through holding M. They had to take out our bottles and check them also. It all turned out juuuuust fine!
We got the gate and just played and hung out until it was time to board.
Before the trip, I read a lot about giving your child Benadryl, Tylenol or Motrin before getting on an airplane and MOST of what I read said it was perfectly normal. We asked our pediatrician just to be extra sure and she said it was ok. If a babies ear don’t pop on their own due to the pressure, it can cause ear ache which is painful. So we gave Maddox just some Tylenol right before boarding the plane.
I tried my best to schedule his feeding around take off. So as soon as the plane left the gate I put my nursing cover on and laid M on the boppy. It was perfect because as the pressure was changing, he was swallowing (drinking) and popping his ears to adjust. He ended up falling asleep for almost two hours!! So Zach and I got to watch 42 (which was an amazing movie by the way).
When Maddox woke up, we had about 45 minutes left (we were traveling from Dallas/Fort Worth to Sacramento, 3 hour flight!) He played for a bit and right towards the end, he got a little fussy so I just walked him up and down the aisles until we needed to stay seated. It worked out perfectly!
As far as my packing list, I think everything was juuuust right. I packed an entire sleeve of pampers and we ended up using about half. But it was good to have just in case.
I really enjoyed using the Brica fold and go bassinet because it worked perfectly for what we needed. We didn’t need a giant pack n play (travel would have been even harder). We just needed somewhere for Maddox to nap during the day and sleep at night. We loved it, especially for the price!
We had a few extra outfits but not many, I actually was happy with the amount I packed because I had some options.
I truly enjoyed traveling with my baby! I think having a good support system (my husband and friends) and being prepared definitely made the trip successful.
I thought this shirt was fitting for the occasion of traveling with a baby, but turns out he was more CUTE than crabby!
I love knowing that having a baby doesn’t “hold you back” from doing things. M did awesome on the entire trip to Lake Tahoe and we truly enjoyed our first vacation as a family of 3!
