June Book Review {2023}

June 30, 2023

It’s a great day to talk about books! Y’all I read some really great books this month and I can’t wait to tell you all about ’em! Let’s go!

In A Jam | Kate Canterbary

synopsis

When Shay Zucconi’s step-grandmother died, she left Shay a tulip farm—under two conditions.

First, Shay has to move home to the small town of Friendship, Rhode Island. Second—and most problematic since her fiancé just called off the wedding—Shay must be married within one year.

Marriage is the last thing in the world Shay wants but she’ll do anything to save the only real home she’s ever known.

Noah Barden loved Shay back in high school. Not that he ever told her. He was too shy, too awkward, too painfully uncool to ask out the beautiful, popular girl.

A lifetime later, Noah is a single dad to his HILARIOUS niece and has his hands full running the family business. That old crush is the farthest thing from his mind.

Until Shay returns to their hometown.

my thoughts...

I was immediately captivated by this small-town rom-com. And I’m still in a puddle of mush after finishing it. In A Jam checked so many boxes for my (very specific) rom-com list; grumpy/sunshine, childhood friends to lovers, small town, and most important NOT CHEESY! And Gennie!! Anytime she was on the page, she literally stole the show! She was my favorite character for sure! If any of this sounds appealing, you should definitely check this one out!

5/5 Stars

The Five-Star Weekend | Elin Hildebrand

synopsis

After tragedy strikes, Hollis Shaw gathers four friends from different stages in her life to spend an unforgettable weekend on Nantucket.

My Thoughts...

Hildebrand is the Queen of summer/beach reads. Some of my favorites from hers is 28 Summers and Golden Girl. This one was ok, good, but not great.

Things I loved: the writing for sure, set in Nantucket, female friendships, a few good twists, and multiple povs.

Things I didn’t care for: some of the conflicts resolved themselves too quickly, and the age of the women were above my age range, so I found it hard to connect.

4/5 Stars

synopsis

The Soulmate

There’s a cottage on a cliff. Gabe and Pippa’s dream home in a sleepy coastal town. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Night after night Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge. Until he doesn’t.

When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, the questions spiral…Did the victim jump? Was she pushed?

And would Gabe, the love of Pippa’s life, her soulmate…lie? As the perfect facade of their marriage begins to crack, the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel.

My Thoughts...

This one was an addictive read for sure, but I don’t think I would call it a thriller. I really love a dual timeline and her writing is so captivating, I didn’t want to put this one down. The twists were not expected, and I enjoyed that. It was a great story, but not exceptional. I was pretty bummed about the ending though, it seemed to wrap up too quickly. Read at your own risk.

4/5 Stars

Aria

synopsis

When the lead singer of my rock band sets his sights on a pretty waitress, I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure she doesn’t get in the way of our dreams.

Only, my plan unravels when she accidentally spills her darkest secrets to me one night, triggering a profound connection neither of us saw coming.

And when those dark secrets come back to haunt her, threatening more than just the new life she’s built for herself, I’m the one she runs to.

I know I should run the other way—I’m a single father who’s been burned before.

Not to mention, she’s my front man’s girl.

But in my crusade to drive her away, I fell for her instead, and now, I’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe… whether she’s mine, or not.

my thoughts...

Have you ever read a book that you don’t really love but for some reason you can’t seem to put it down? That was this book for me. Despite my review, this author has a very addictive writing style.

Onto my thoughts… This story started off strong, I was immediately captivated by the plot. Friends-to-lovers trope is definitely one of my favorites of all time, so I was hooked from the first chapter. It was emotion-driven and intense so I really liked that. But when the mc starts having feelings for someone that isn’t her boyfriend, she pushes those feelings aside and continues to date her bf. The lines blurred a bit and I didn’t like where it was going. Although there wasn’t cheating, it was a little too close for comfort and that’s not my favorite, buuut the connection they had was truly spellbinding. ✨

The ending was definitely not what I expected so now I’m starting the second book to hopefully wrap this up.

4/5 Stars

So there you have it, four books I read this month. Did I mention two of these are on Kindle Unlimited? If you’d like to check out the millions of titles they offer, you can try it free for 7 days. Once you sign up for a membership you can borrow up to 20 titles at a time. It’s a great deal if you ask me.

Now you tell me, what should I read next? I’d love to hear your thoughts, and your recommendations!!!

Shrek Jr. was absolutely AMAZING! 💚🎭I am beyond proud of Maddox for taking on such a huge role and absolutely crushing it as Shrek. Watching him own that stage with confidence, talent, and perfect comedic timing was something I’ll never forget. And Mia? She kicked butt up there! She brought so much energy and heart to every moment, and seeing these two shine together made this mama’s heart so full. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be humming “I’m a Believer” for the next three weeks… and wondering if we have room for a swamp in the backyard. 💚✨#maddoxzachary #maddoxandmia #shrekjr #shrekjrthemusical #actorsconservatorytheater ...
